Lay Me Down
03:56
|
|||
Let me live how I want to live
Let me die how I want to die
Let me eat my fill of meat
Let me ease my trouble with wine
Let me be good to my fellow man
And always treat my women kind
Let me live how I want to live
Let me die how I want to die
Let me love when I need to love
Let me fight when I have to fight
Let me dance to a different drum
Let me walk towards the light
Give me the strength to lead those
Who don’t know wrong from right
Let me love when I need to love
Let me fight when I have to fight
Yes and lay me down
By the cool water
Let my thoughts lap around in the tides for a while
And the winds of change shift me where they may
Let me be all that I can be
Let me see beyond all that is seen
Yes and guide my hand to make a righteous stand
And let me smile on all mankind
Let me dream in coloured hues
Let me see no black or white
Let me fight no old man’s war
Let me pay no god no mind
Let me know no boarders
And roam the earth free in my own time
Let me dream in coloured hues
Let me see no black or white
Yes and lay me down
By the cool water
Let my thoughts lap around in the tides for a while
While winds of change shift me where they may

I Lost Her to the Ocean
02:41
|
|||
I lost her to the ocean
I lost her to the blue
I lost her to the warmth
Of a summer’s afternoon
I lost her because I
Just couldn’t see things through
I lost her to the ocean
I lost her to the blue
I lost her to the winter
And to the night time too
I lost her to the cold
And the morning’s sweet dew
I’ve lost her forever now
And there’s nothing that I can do
I lost her to the ocean
I lost her to the blue
Now she’s gone
And I just don’t know what to do
Maybe she sails by the stars
Or maybe she’s lost too
I lost her from my arms
That would bring her to my chest
I lost her from my bed
And my pillow where she’d rest
I lost her from my lips
And the only kiss I ever knew
I lost her to the ocean
I lost her to the blue

Marylou, I See You Too
02:35
|
|||
You peek out of your window
When I walk past your home
You check me in your mirrors
When I’m driving down the road
And I know that you think
I won’t catch sight of you
But Marylou, I see you too
You leave flowers on my doorstep
Under cover of the moon
Love letters in my mailbox
Scented with your perfume
So why do you think
I won’t know it’s you?
Because Marylou, I see you too
Now I don’t want to be lonely
And I don’t want to be sad
But if we take this too slowly
We might lose what we had
So don’t you leave it up to chance
And don’t you leave it up to fate
If I’m the one you want
You’ve got to tell it to me straight
O, Marylou you’ve got me here
In your bedroom all alone
A little wine in my belly
And a disconnected phone
You’re seeing all of me
So what are you going to do?
Now that Marylou, I see you too

Morning Light
02:51
|
|||
Your restless soul has served you well
As you walk unbeaten paths
And the thirst that lives within you now
Will heal your rambling scars
Though at times you may get weary
You mustn’t give in too soon
For over the hill the morning light
Is coming into view
There’s a darkness inside of everyone
But there is a light there too
And even if it don’t shine so bright
The cracks will let it come through
When your odyssey falls into shadows
Will you travel by the light of the moon?
As long as you know that morning light
Is coming into view
Sometimes you’ll want to push yourself
To see how much you can take
Sometimes you’ll have to break on down
And it’s home you’ll wish to wake
But however you choose to journey
By ship, or sail, or canoe
You be guided on home by the morning light
Which is coming into view

Fire on the Mountain
02:47
|
|||
There’s fire on the mountain
Smoke falling on the city
I can’t remember when
It’s ever been this bad
Temperatures keep rising
Numbers are getting higher
You can tell from all the shoutin’
There’s fire on the mountain
The men who are in charge
Are blind to all they see
Deaf to their people
Whose job is to please;
The elderly, the sick,
The children, and the poor
We’d be better off without them
There’s fire on the mountain
We are becoming gods
As we burn in hell
It’s a lesson that was taught
But never learned too well
To conserve a dead culture
No matter the cost
Is to bow down to power
While all else gets lost
The elephant in the room
Is becoming extinct
The ash is flowing like a fountain
There’s fire on the mountain

Sydney Harbour Bridge
02:13
|
|||
I’m due out of prison in the morning
I served seven years righting all my wrongs
Tonight when I’m alone
To remind my myself of home
I’ll dream a dream of the Sydney Harbour Bridge
Now I’ve always been a good boy to my mama
But when they locked me up she had them throw away the key
So when I heard the warden say
My parole papers were stamped today
My eyes lit up like the Sydney Harbour Bridge
I’m going to walk out of these prison walls
With a smile on my face, feeling ten foot tall
I’m going to breathe the air of a free man
And hitchhike my way into town
And then the next thing I’m going to do is see my mama
And ask her why she stopped writing me them letters
I’ll tell her no matter what I’ve done
I’ll always be her son
And then I’ll go and jump off the Sydney Harbour Bridge

There Goes the Sun
02:43
|
|||
There goes the sun, behind the clouds
It’s cold and I don’t have a coat on
My pockets have holes and my shoes are years old
And there’s no fire that I can sit next to
Your love used to keep me warm, back when I knew that it was strong
That was years ago now and we’ve moved on
So I’ll keep walking ‘round this empty-hearted town
Until I find something that can replace you
I’ve been searching and thinking, looking and drinking
Trying to get over you
But it doesn’t seem to matter how hard I may try
No, I’m never getting over you
The moon’s coming up and I think I’ll head on home
The night’s the only thing that I can count on
Once the night was you, as tomorrow was too
But now you’re only yesterday

If I cast my mind back, maybe ten years or more
I remember an old love I don’t know now at all
The curl of her lips, the fall of her hair,
And the flowers on that old country dress that she’d wear
I lay down on the ground as the albatross flew south
But I’ve learned to live without you now
I’ll never love her again, but I’ll never forget
The last time we kissed and the first time we met
Or the days we would spent on the grass near the ocean
Crossing our hearts before they were broken
I stood out in the rain with the street dogs as they’d howl
While I learnt to live without you now
I gave you up with grace, don’t even ask me how
I could leave behind beauty not meant for me
It’s such a shame to watch love fade away
And sadder still to see it twist and decay
But o’er the hill a new day is born
And with it comes the sweet and early promise of more
The bottlebrush is in bloom, the sun is coming out
And I’ve learnt to live without you now

Bring My Body Home
02:22
|
|||
Bring my body home, lord
Bring my body home
If I die across the sea
Wont you bring my body home?
Bury me where I was born
And let it now be known
That if I die across the sea
Wont you bring my body home?
I’ve been all around this world
Seen its churches and its thrones
Through its ruins I have walked
And great cities I have roamed
But for all the beauty I have seen
There’s nowhere else I’ve known
That when it comes time to lay my head
I would rest my weary bones
I fell in love in Paris, twice
And met a sweet belle in Rome
Shared the night with an English lass
Before my bird had flown
But when I wake up with the dawn
Lying sleepy and alone
My thoughts, they turn to my only girl
Who waits for me at home

Come In Spinner
04:22
|
|||
I come in out of the cold
And put my rifle down
There’s something, I am told,
Will help to calm me down
I look up at the trenches
Make my way through the crowd
And I hear the captain mention
That two-up is allowed
I see Kiwi Johnny
He’s boxer once again
And Mark from Toongabbie
Well, he’s losing again
So come on boys
Don’t you wear your voices out
If we make too much noise
The colonel will shut us down
So come in spinner
And blow us all away
For a moment
It almost feels like I’m home
Yes, for a moment
It almost feels like I’m home
Now years have come and gone
But still I play the coin
And when my time is done
My brothers, I will join
The ones who paid the greatest debts
It’s for them I must stand proud
And never will I forget
When two-up was allowed
